OLIGNO
A bit of history
The city rises at the centre of Umbrian Valley and is surrounded by stone walls, and for a large part, by the Topino river.
Fulgina, of ancient origin, fell to the Rome after the battle of Sentino (295 A.C.) started asa Municipium then as a Prefect.
During the various centuries it encountered many events: destructed by the Saracens and Hungarians, rose during the period of Barbarossa, it grew and as a free city, at the beginning of the XIII century, and joined the State of the Church.
The city was occupied by the Ghebellines from 1227 to 1305, when they affirmed the domination of Trinci.
The glorious domination had a violent epilogue in 1439, when the city returned to the domination of the Church, and therefore, remaining the napoleon parenthesis until 1860, year in which it became part of The Italian Reign.

Monuments and folklore
The main monuments are centred on the square of The Repubblica, dominated by the City Palace, residence of the Magistrates from 1260. The palace is linked by a small bridge with the Orfini Palace. We must remember that at the opera Orfini in 1472 at Foligno the first edition of the Divine Comedy was realised. At The Repubblica Square facing palazzo Trinci, there is a beautiful nobel residence built at the end of 1300
Piazza San Domenico is also very beautiful, and in the Middle Ages was the centre for intense religion. It faces the gothic church of San Domenico (Saint Dominic) and the ancient Santa Maria Infraportas. The most important religious monument of the city is the Cathedral dedicated to the patron San Feliciano.
Finally, we must remember some interesting residences of the nobel built during the Renaissance and 19th century such as: Nuti Deli Palace, Piermarini Palace, Vitelleschi Palace, Candiotti Palace and Barnaḅ Palace.
Some of the most important folklore manifestation are: The Festival of the Segni Barocchi and The Giostra della Quintana, held in September, which consists of a Tournament of Knights that brings back a page in history to the city, dating back to 1600.
